Making a Contribution - Ways to Give

Joining the Fight Against Cancer

The relevance and impact of philanthropic gifts made to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center can not be overstated. Private contributions have advanced numerous cancer research initiatives at Hopkins, purchased life saving medical equipment and funded innovative patient care programs.

We invite you to join us in our fight against cancer by becoming a donor to the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center. Charitable contributions to the Kimmel Cancer Center come in many shapes and sizes – through outright cash gifts, a pledge payable over a period of three-five years, planned gifts, special events and other creative philanthropic projects.  When making your next gift to the Kimmel Cancer Center, keep the following giving ideas in mind.  Our Development staff is here to help you with your philanthropic plans and decisions.

Annual Giving – Annual gifts of all amounts support our Director’s Special Projects Fund, a general fund that allows the Director of the Cancer Center to allocate monies to priority programs, new and current projects, and initiatives most in need of funding.  Different levels of giving are recognized by our Kimmel Giving Clubs, each with their own array of benefits to the donor.

Auditorium Chair Research Fund - NEW FALL 2006! Support our research projects and patient care programs through pledges to the Auditorium Chair Research Fund and receive an engraved plaque in our new 230-seat auditorium connecting our two cancer research buildings.  Read more.

Memorial or Honor Giving – Donate in honor of a special occasion or remember someone by making a gift in their name.  To include the Cancer Center in memorial announcements, please call our office at (410) 516-4203 or email us at lengel2@jhmi.edu.  When making a memorial or honor contribution, please let us know who you would like us to notify of your generosity.

The Legacy Circle & Planned Giving –  In the Fall of 2002, the Kimmel Cancer Center created the Legacy Circle to honor donors who have named the Cancer Center as a beneficiary of their Will, a trust, an annuity, life insurance, or a retirement account.  Members of the Legacy Circle receive first-hand information on the latest cancer research discoveries as well as other activities occurring at the Kimmel Cancer Center.

Planned Giving staff at Johns Hopkins can assist you with all aspects of this type of philanthropy.  For more information about the Legacy Circle and/or including the Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins in your estate plans, contact the Development Office at 410-516-4203.

The Martin D. Abeloff Scholars Program In Cancer Prevention and Control - A gift opportunity presented by the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins to honor Martin D. Abeloff, M.D.

Workplace Giving – Some companies match gifts made by their employees, or provide funding to nonprofit organizations through their own charitable giving program or foundation.  Find out how your company can join you in supporting the Kimmel Cancer Center.

Endowments and Named Gift Opportunities – Naming opportunities exist for gifts of $100,000 or more.  Research funds, laboratories, fellowships, scholars, professorships, and buildings all have naming or permanent endowment opportunities.  This is a wonderful way to remember or honor a family member or friend who has been touched by cancer, and to recognize the generosity of your family or organization.

Special Events and Creative Giving – Some families and groups have formed their own non-profit organizations which hold events that raise funds for the Kimmel Cancer Center.  Other individuals and companies have sold art pieces to raise funds, or donated a percentage of product sales.  View a list of events benefiting the Kimmel Cancer Center taking place in the coming months.
