Cyclists Cross Country to Raise Money for the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center
On Tuesday, August 15th, 6 cyclists rode into Baltimore's Inner Harbor wearing their blue Cross Country for Cancer jerseys and playing "The Final Countdown" on their portable ipod radio. For these six students from Amherst and Oxford, this was the last stretch of their incredible summer journey across the United States. On July 3rd they dipped the front tires of their bikes into the San Francisco Bay before beginning a 44-day cross-country trek to raise awareness and funds for cancer research at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center where John, the main organizer will begin his MD/PhD program this fall. When they arrived in Baltimore, the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center greeted them with cheers and a reception in the Weinberg Auditorium where Dr. Doug Smith, Associate Professor of Oncology at the Kimmel Cancer Center, and Chris Millard, cancer survivor and Lance Armstrong Tour of Hope cyclist, thanked them for all they've done for cancer patients everywhere.
